The Best Optometrist In Alberton
Since 1994 ICare has been synonymous with professionalism, superior products and an efficient well-trained team. In 1997 Carel van Westing took over the ICare group and in 2007 Louis van Rooyen joined as business partner.
Together they had a vision of creating practices that offer more than just an eye examination. Today, Carel, Louis and Izolde share the same vision to care for your eye health through every aspect of your life. All our optometrists are highly qualified with degrees in BOptom ensuring that you receive the best eye care solutions for your everyday needs.
Offering a full range of services including peadiatric eye care, sports vision, scleral contact lenses and so much more, ICare has flourished into a full service family optometrist. The team would not be complete without competent reception and administrative staff who are always ready to assist.
We are devoted to comprehensive eye care which we offer at two modern practices.
Our innovative, wheelchair accessible Michelle Ave practice offers more than just an eye examination. Here we have created the needed space to expand our services. We offer sports vision treatments, scleral contact lens solutions, dry eye treatment, dyslexia evaluations and much more. Here we also have a fully functional cut and fit lab, where we stock a range of lenses and are often able to cut and fit lenses after the eye examination. (Please note - we do not stock all lenses and it is best to discuss this option with your optometrist to avoid disappointment)

Our modern, wheelchair accessible Newmarket practice is conveniently located at Mall @ Newmarket. Here we offer comprehensive examinations that forms part of the specialised services offered at our Michelle practice.
Through attention to detail we have created comfortable and relaxing waiting areas keeping everyone occupied while you wait. The colourful paediatric waiting area at the Michelle Ave practice offers video games, a drawing board and plush toys to keep children of all ages busy while parents can sit back and watch live sports matches or enjoy a cup of coffee.
Fundus photography involves photographing the rear of an eye; also known as the fundus. A fundus camera provides an upright, magnified view of the fundus.
We use fundus photography for monitoring the progression of certain eye condition/diseases.
Fundus photographs are also used to document abnormalities of disease process affecting the eye, such as diabetes, age-macular degeneration (AMD), glaucoma, multiple sclerosis, and neoplasm of the choroid, cranial nerves, retinal or eyeball.
Why a Fundus camera is important:
Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is used for medical imaging because it provides imagery at much higher resolution than other imaging processes such as MRI or ultrasound.
OCT delivers high resolution because it is based on light, rather than sound or radio frequency.
The key benefits of OCT are:
Corneal topography, also known as photokeratoscopy or videokeratography, is a non-invasive medical imaging technique for mapping the anterior curvature of the cornea, the outer structure of the eye. Since the cornea is normally responsible for some 70% of the eye's refractive power, its topography is of critical importance in determining the quality of vision and corneal health
The three-dimensional map is therefore a valuable aid to the examining optometrist
